How to Make the Most Out Of Your Bulgaria Trip

Taking a trip to Bulgaria is something that lots of people do, and it’s a very popular place to visit. However, there are definitely a few things that you can do to make the most of it. if you are looking to rent an apartment in Sunny Beach then its good to know a bit about the local culture and lay of the land

To try and make sure that you get the best holiday experience possible, we’re going to talk a little bit about what you can do to make sure that your trip to Bulgaria is the best it can be. Let’s explore some of the options.

Learn the Language

One of the most important things that you can do when it comes to going to Bulgaria is to try and learn the basics of the language. It’ll make a big difference to your experience. If you can speak at least a few words of Bulgarian, usually common phrases associated with visiting.

At the very least, you should be able to know how to ask for the hospital, how to tell someone that you speak English, and also how to ask for basic food items. These are all valuable words and phrases that will make your trip a lot more comfortable.

Watch Out For Yes and No

In most places in the world, yes and no are pretty universal. They’re often accompanied by a certain gesture – specifically, where you nod your head at something to demonstrate yes, and shake your head to demonstrate no. However, this is reversed in Bulgaria.

When people shake their head, they can actually mean yes, so it’s important to keep an eye on this. Try and pay more attention to the language than the gestures, because it can get a bit confusing.

Currency

Even though Bulgaria is in the European Union, they don’t use the euro. Instead, they use their own currency called a Bulgarian Lev. The exchange rate for this is roughly €1 to 2 Bulgarian Levs, so it’s important to make sure that you get your cash converted before you come across.

Keep Cash On You

The thing about Bulgaria, is that even though most big places take card payments, that’s not how the locals do things – card payments are more usually reserved for tourists, and the bulk people in Bulgaria pay with cash. You should always keep a bit of cash on you, Whether it’s for tipping the server at your restaurant or paying for a taxi, because it does make a big difference.

Travel By Car

A lot of the best parts of Bulgaria aren’t in the big towns and cities. You have to go a little way off the beaten path in order to find some of the best things, so we recommend that you hire a vehicle to drive around. Public transport is good, but it’s not necessarily the best solution for Bulgaria specifically, so try and rent a car.

Eat Local

Cuisine is often one of the great parts of visiting another country, but there are often periods where you’ve had a long day and can’t be bothered to go out and wait for hours at a restaurant, so you want to get some fast food. While there are fast food chains like McDonald’s, it’s better to go and eat locally where you can. There are a lot of street vendors who sell things like pizzas, and you can get one of these in a few minutes.

Respect the Culture

Bulgaria is a place which has a pretty rich culture and a lot of tradition. They have festivals to mark certain parts of the year, and there is a heavy sense of history in the country. You definitely want to research this history before you go out there, just so you don’t offend anybody. However, as a tourist, it’s your responsibility to be respectful of cultural norms in the country.

Try the Roses

When people say that you should stop and smell the roses, they probably didn’t mean it quite so literally as in Bulgaria. The country is one of the biggest producers of rose oil in the entire world, which means that no matter where you go, you are likely to be able to get access to rose oil in many different forms. It’s a very powerful smell, so you better develop a tolerance right now, because it can be everywhere.

Get Good Accommodation

Good accommodation is one of the best things that you can do with your time. If you’re going to be exploring Bulgaria, you need a good home base from which to rest, recuperate, and plan your activities. The Saint Alexander Nevsky Cathedral

One of the most unique but visually stunning locations in Bulgaria is the Saint Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.

Sitting right at the heart of Bulgaria, this amazing location is gorgeous but also unique – nobody is allowed to take photos in it. However, you’re still allowed to go in and explore the area for yourself, and you’ve got plenty of amazing things to check out in the building itself. Furthermore, when you do visit, there is a good chance that you’ll get to witness the choir singing – a wholly memorable experience.

Scuba Diving

With such a broad range of places, you’d be surprised that scuba diving is an activity which people are so content to enjoy. However, when it comes to Bulgaria, it’s also important to recognise the sheer amount of outdoor activities which exist. The entire area has a deep connection to nature with endless mountains, forests, and Black Sea beaches.

This also means that there are plenty of things you can do in the water, and scuba diving has long been a popular activity in this regard. The country has a surprisingly diverse amount of diving sites for you to check out. You could see underwater forests, caves, all the marine life you could possibly want, and even some sunken WWII battleships as little monuments to the war. With all that variety, it’s no surprise people love the area.

Shumen Monument

If you don’t mind some of the political connotations behind this next choice, then the Shumen Monument is a nice attraction to visit. You’ll have to go to Shumen’s town to find it, but at the same time, it’s worth the trek.

The monument was constructed in 1981, and was created as part of a celebration of 1300 years of Bulgaria, which began with the formation of the first Bulgarian Empire.

The statue itself is sometimes called the Founders of Bulgarian State, and it is clearly visible among the landscape. The design is typical of cubist and communist influences – all bombastic and unapologetic. However, unlike a lot of other communist monuments which are found in Bulgaria – most are torn down or fall into disrepair, this is one which has been maintained long after the fall of communism. Nowadays, it is a popular place for tourists to visit for obvious reasons – the photo potential alone is worth the trip.

Plovdiv Old Town

Finally, you’ve got something like Plovdiv Old Town. This is a charming place which was recently chosen as the European Capital of Culture back in 2019, and it is not difficult to see why.

You’ll probably find yourself checking out all of the stunning antique museums and shops in the area, including a Roman amphitheater and an Ottoman mosque. Enjoy a Great Holiday in Bulgaria

You can still go on holiday and enjoy all the things you want to without having to worry. It’s a very beautiful place, with a lot to do, and amazing accommodation (we can help with that). For that reason, taking the time to enjoy a great holiday is just one of the reasons why we should go in September or October, because let’s face it, you deserve it. Why shouldn’t you have a great holiday?

No Kids

Kids are fantastic. Lots of families are very happy, and parents love their children a lot. Nobody is arguing with that, but occasionally, you just need some time away. If you’re a parent, when was the last time you got a chance to go on holiday by yourself? It probably hasn’t happened in quite a few years, and while it is nice to go on a big family holiday, sometimes, you just want to take your partner and go somewhere romantic for the two of you.

That’s why going on holiday in September and October can be a great thing for you to do. However, even above and beyond that, lots of people just like holidaying without a bunch of screaming kids running around in the background. It’s a perfectly understandable idea, because if you’re trying to enjoy your holiday, you don’t want to be surrounded by families. That’s why taking the time to go on holiday in September and October means that you bypass a lot of the family crowds.

The Tourist Season is Still Going

The great thing about the tourist season is that it doesn’t actually stop just because you have left the summer holiday behind. For example, we provide amazing accommodation from May to October. That means even after the summer holidays end at the end of August, there are two whole months for you to come and enjoy a beautiful holiday doing all the tourist things if you want.

There are lots of things that are considered to be part of the typical holiday experience. Lots of people love going on holiday and buying little souvenirs, or going on cruise rides, or doing half a dozen other things that are considered to be for the tourists. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it as an idea, so why not take the time to go when there are less crowds, less people, but still plenty of tourist attractions open?

Get Some R&R

Let’s be realistic here. We’ve had an absolutely atrocious few years. The COVID-19 pandemic pretty much shut the holiday industry down, locked many of us in our own countries, and meant that you couldn’t go somewhere sunny and beautiful to spend your summer. This was not great for anybody, and now that the travel industry is allowed to take people around the world again, why shouldn’t you take advantage of this and go on holiday to Bulgaria?

After the absolutely shocking few years that we’ve had, most people deserve the chance to go on holiday and relax. You should be able to get that relaxation, and to be able to enjoy yourself, and forget that we spent the last few years worrying about COVID-19. Go on holiday, see what Bulgaria has to offer, and do it without any regrets.

As you can see, there are plenty of reasons to go on holiday to Bulgaria in September and October. We are still more than happy to provide an amazing holiday experience for you. We don’t start with regular summer holidays, so if you want to, you’ve got another two months to get out there and enjoy yourself. There’s plenty to do and see in Bulgaria, we will probably talk more in the future about some of the best attractions for people to visit, but at the same time, why not treat yourself?

You definitely deserve the chance to go and enjoy yourself, we are more than happy to help. If you don’t like the idea of going on holiday surrounded by screaming children, then going during September and October is a much better way to do it. It’s often quieter, there’s a lot to do, and it’s quite a nice experience.
